2021 Editions

The soil ecosystem has still received too little attention by the scientific community, although the International Year on Soils in 2015 has considerably raised the awareness to protect, to study and to better understand its enormous potentials.

2021 EDITION

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conferences were postponed to August 2021!
The ICSZ conference will be held from 16 – 21 August 2021, with the ICA having dedicated sessions within the ICSZ. The conference venue will be at Eurac Research headquarters (venue address: Viale Druso 1, 39100 Bozen/Bolzano, South Tyrol, ITALY)
During these conferences, we will be able to share our research on soil fauna and their ecology, from the lowland to the high mountains.

Theme

Soil biodiversity from the lowlands to the high mountains

The small region of South Tyrol is highly diverse not only in terms of culture, languages and history, but also regarding landscapes.
This led us to choose this edition’s theme “Soil biodiversity from the lowland to the high mountains“. The lowest point at the southern tip of the Province with around 200 m a.s.l. is characterized by Mediterranean climate with grapes and apples growing in the valleys. Contrarily, South Tyrol reaches its highest point in the Ortler mountain range, ice-covered all year and peaking at 3905 m.
In between these two elevations, the topography and human influence created a variety of grasslands, forests, marshes as well as agricultural and urban land. In other words: there is still a lot to explore and to investigate, especially when focusing on soil zoology.
And thus is the world of soil animals: even if soil zoology and soil ecology studies are constantly increasing in numbers, and we get more and more pieces right to complete the picture, many questions remain unanswered.
We are eager and curious to see which new insights will be provided by our speakers, and which new collaborations and friendships will emerge!

Green Event

Sustainability is not just a modern term to use, but a responsibility. As we all have an impact on the environment, we want to provide you an event as green as possible. We are proud to tell you that the two conferences will be certified Green Events to keep the environmental impact as low as possible. Find more details here (in German or Italian only).
We further encourage everyone who will come to Bozen/Bolzano to use public transportation. We recommend you to get a Mobilcard which can be used for all buses, trains and several cable cars. Ask for it in your hotel (also called GuestCard).
